The Environmental Movement of Cyprus requests from the competent Authorities to proceed immediately with the necessary actions for the licensing of the Green Point in the area of Lake Paralimni to resolve the pollution of the environment by throwing garbage in the area.

In a statement, the Movement states that the dumping of garbage, useless objects, sofas, chairs, etc. in the area of Lake Paralimni continues and that environmental crime in the area has been going on for several years despite the continuous efforts and warnings of other environmental movements and .

He states that the main reason for "this downturn with the conversion of the area into a garbage dump, is the lack of a licensed green spot in the area. The images we saw today, and as they appear in the media, are images that we often see in recent years, without a substantial solution to the problem that has existed for years ".

He reminds that the Municipality of Deryneia has already submitted an application for a licensed green spot and expects a grant of 50 thousand euros from the Ministry of Agriculture, to carry out an environmental study, while for about a year now they have indicated a specific place to become a green spot.

He notes that Lake Paralimni is one of the most important wetlands in Cyprus with rare species of flora and fauna, such as the rare species of water snake, Natrix natrix cypriaca, and is one of the protected habitats of the NATURA 2000 Network.

"We immediately ask the competent authorities to proceed with the necessary Green Point licensing actions in the area to resolve this issue." the announcement concludes.
