More than twice as many tourists visited Spain in June compared to the same month a year ago and spent almost three times as much during their stay, according to figures released today by the national statistics office.
The 7,5 million visitors in June spent nearly €9 billion as Spain returns to pre-pandemic levels in its biggest and most important sector of the economy.
"In these six months (of 2022) we have already exceeded 30 million foreign tourists, which corresponds to 80% of the pre-pandemic volume, but in terms of spending we are already at 90% of pre-pandemic levels" , said Tourism Minister Reges Maroto.
"If the trend continues, we will clearly be at pre-pandemic levels (at the end of the year)," she said.
The Spanish government expects tourist arrivals to reach 90% of pre-pandemic volumes during the summer season as northern Europeans defy inflation concerns and book even more trips from 2019.
