A lecture on Music Therapy and Speech Therapy will be hosted by the Municipality of Sotiras at the Municipal Theater next Sunday, January 21 at 5 pm.

MUSIC THERAPY: TO WHOM IS IT ADDRESSED AND HOW CAN IT HELP?
Speaker: Fanouria Tzourrou - Music Therapist, MSc

The lecture explains the term school readiness and analyzes the knowledge and skills that the child must have to enter primary school so that he can successfully cope with his lessons and school obligations. Examples of skills are given in the form of simple questions and frequently asked questions by parents. Telsuggestions on how parents can support their child.

Speaker: Stella Savva, Speech Therapist - Special Educator, MSc

This presentation aims to inform about music therapy, what it is, how it can help and to whom it is addressed. It refers to scientific and empirical research that proves its effectiveness as well as to the personal experiences of the rapporteur. Excerpts from music therapy sessions will also be presented during the lecture.

Discussion and questions to the rapporteurs will follow.

Who are the rapporteurs:

Fanouria Tzourrou

Fanouria Tzourrou was born in Paralimni, Famagusta province in 1992. From 2010 to 2013 she studied music at Plymouth University in the United Kingdom. She then did her Masters in Music Therapy at Queen Margaret University in Scotland from 2013 to 2015. In 2016 he attended another postgraduate course in Psychology at Sheffield Hallam University in the United Kingdom. He has won the award for the highest score of the MSc Psychology master's thesis on music therapy and autism.

She practiced in special schools and kindergartens in Scotland and during her studies worked as a music therapist and assistant with children and adults with various needs / difficulties and syndromes including people with autism. Attended training on the protection and care of vulnerable adults, autism as well as the prevention and treatment of aggressive behaviors and completed the MAPA training program. 

Also in 2016 he offered voluntary music therapy in schools for children with communication difficulties and autism in Sheffield, UK. For the last 2 years she has been working in her Private office in Paralimni and is an external collaborator in educational centers and cultural laboratories in the province of Famagusta. He is a member of the Cyprus Music Therapy Association, the British Music Therapy Association and the HCPC.

Stella Savva

Stella Savva comes from Sotira and was born in 1991. From 2009 to 2013 she studied at the ATEI of Epirus in the Department of Speech Therapy. She then attended her postgraduate program in Special Education at the University of Cyprus. In 2017 she completed her Specialization in weighted psychometric tools and in the planning of interventions at the University of Thessaly. Also in 2017 he specialized in Dyslexia and Phonological Awareness. He attended many seminars on various topics such as autism, Special Language Disorder, Speech Disorders - Stuttering, Speech Delay and more.

She did her internship at FIA, which is the Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at the Hospital of Ioannina, and worked at the Ark Foundation in Paphos. For the last 4 years she has been working in her private office in Sotira and is an external collaborator in kindergartens. He is a member of the Pancyprian Association of Speech Therapists and the Panhellenic Association of Speech Therapists-Speech Therapists.
