It is the largest sandy beach, not only in Greece, but in Europe. The Monolithi coast, located in the western part of the prefecture Preveza at a distance of a few kilometers from the Ancient city of Nikopolis, it stretches to a length of 25 kilometers and impresses the visitor with the vastness that characterizes it.

In ancient times the name of the place was "Komaros", meaning arborvitae, because of the many arborvitae that still exist in the area.

Its name (single stone) is due to a cluster of coastal rocks located 10 meters from the shore, about 10 ακ 10 in size. Until 1943, these rocks protruded one meter above sea level, until German and Italian soldiers broke the rock by bombarding it with mortar. Today, a kind of reef has been created at the water level on the spot. The name Monolith first appears in the early 19th century on a handwritten map by Jean Denis Barbie du Bocage.

The Monolithi beach stretches from the village of Mytikas to the village of Kastrosykia in the Municipality of Preveza, from where begins the so-called Monolithi forest, 8 km long, which belongs to the Archaeological Alpha zone of the area, due to Ancient Nikopolis.

The paradisiacal waters of the beach, the serenity emitted by the endless golden sand 10-50 meters wide, the eucalyptus trees that give their soothing shade to the bathers and the wonderful green natural landscape around it attract hundreds of tourists every year. The beach is very easy to reach and is located 10 km northwest of the city of Preveza, while it has scattered tourist facilities.

The pole of attraction for both the residents and the visitors of the area is the huge golden, sandy beach that looks like a tongue that invades the Ionian waters and the only protected wetland. The reason for the beach of Louros, 16 km southwest of Neochori, in the prefecture Aitoloacarnania.

With a length of 17 km, it is the second largest beach in Greece and one of the few in the whole country where sand dunes are formed, while since 1974 it is protected by the RAMSAR Convention.

The protected flora of the area includes cedars, laurels, tamarisks and sand lilies. In its fauna there is a large number of birds among which can be seen pelicans, storks, wild geese, blackbirds, goldfinches, as well as wild horses that live in the wider area of the wetland.
