The meeting of the enlarged provincial committee of AKEL Famagusta ended with two names, where the candidacies proposed by the party for the Municipality of Famagusta were discussed. According to information cited by the newspaper "Politis", the enlarged provincial committee decided to propose - as consensus candidates - the following names in order of priority.
AKEL's first proposal for the Municipality of Famagusta concerns Pavlos Anastasiadis. He is a diplomat and former ambassador of the Republic of Cyprus to Washington. According to sources close to AKEL, he is a distinguished diplomat, supporter of the Federal solution and an excellent expert on the Cyprus issue.
The second name proposed by AKEL is the candidacy of the doctor and former deputy mayor of Famagusta, Simos Ioannou. It is recalled that Mr. Ioannou was a candidate for the late Mayor of the city Alexis Galanou, in the previous municipal elections. His candidacy was supported by AKEL, DIKO and EDEK and he failed to get elected for a few votes. It should be noted that both originate from Famagusta.
As it appears from today's proposals, the possibility of supporting the candidacy of Markos Tragolas by AKEL, ceases to exist. Besides, according to the information of "Politis" about the proposals of AKEL, the Democratic Alarm has already been informed, whose political office will meet on Monday to consult on the specific proposals and possibly to come up with its own proposals.
