Famagusta Municipal Elections: No objections for the candidates

No objections were submitted for the candidates who will claim the mayoral seat of occupied Famagusta on August 25.

In his statements to KYPE, the District of Famagusta, George Chrysafinis, stated that "until 12.30, when the 24-hour deadline expired, no objections were submitted regarding the candidates who will claim in the by-elections of August 25, the Municipality of Famagusta from Famagusta" of Alexis Galanos.

He added that “the District Administration of Famagusta has already started preparing the draft ballots, which the candidates are also seeing in order to reach the final. "After the selection of the final ballot paper, we now enter the election process for the election of the mayor of Famagusta".

Answering a relevant question, Mr. Chrysafinis stated that “the first candidate in the final ballot will be the party member, that is, in this case the ELAM candidate Linos Papagiannis. Then the other candidates will follow in alphabetical order ".

He also noted that “next week all the candidates or their representatives will be invited to the offices of the Famagusta District Administration where we will inform them about the polling stations that will exist in all the cities of free Cyprus. They will also be informed about the numbers of voters, will be given the voter lists and will be informed about the ways in which the registered voters will be able to find the polling station where they will vote ".

As the District of Famagusta said, “for the mayor of Famagusta, five candidacies were submitted yesterday. Specifically, Linos Papagiannis, supported by ELAM, and four independent candidates who are in alphabetical order are Ioannou Simos, Karoulas Nikos, Lord Andreas and Stavri Georgios ".

He explained that the registered voters amount to 31,589. In the province of Limassol there are the most voters and in total around 12,500, in the province of Larnaca there are around 10 thousand, in Nicosia there are 4,500, in the free province of Famagusta 3,500 while in the province of Paphos there are 1,200 voters.

Mr. Chrysafinis also said that “in the elections of August 25, a total of 44 polling stations will operate, ie 4 in the free province of Famagusta, 7 in Nicosia, 13 in Larnaca, 19 in Limassol and 1 in Paphos. This year, ten polling stations will operate less compared to those that operated in the municipal elections of 2016 ".
