Controlled opening of Varosia under the administration of "TRNC"

Varosia, controlled opening, Nea Famagusta, Refugees

The Turkish plan for Famagusta can be considered anything but a pre-election firework after what one of its key protagonists revealed to the Turkish Cypriot media. The whole plan, which has not yet been decided when it will be implemented, as projected by the Turkish Cypriot media, envisages a controlled opening of Varosia with the return of refugees under the administration of the so-called "TRNC".

According to the Turkish plan: the property rights of Greek Cypriots in the area of Varosia will be recognized, they will be allowed to return and use their property (whether they are homes or hotels), and the only condition is that they will recognize its sovereignty. so-called "TRNC". Essentially, what the Turkish side is aiming at is to open Varosia in order to achieve recognition of the pseudo-state.

The goals set by the Turkish side last Saturday have been recorded by one of the protagonists of the meeting, the president of the Turkish Bar Association, Metin Feizioglu:

1. The solution to be given by the Turkish side is practical and "does not contradict the phrase in United Nations Resolution 550 which says give it to its former inhabitants".
2. The invitation will be to those who lived in Famagusta until 1974 and "we will not tell other Turks from other parts of northern Cyprus" or "we will not say come from Anatolia, there are empty buildings" and go and get them.
3. They will address "whoever was a resident of that hotel or who are its legal heirs" with a condition: "You will recognize the sovereignty of the TRNC".
4. Arrangements will be made so that where there are problems there is a buyer for the property of a Greek Cypriot who wants to sell it.

The intentions of the Turkish side provoke a strong reaction from Nicosia, with President Anastasiadis preparing to make complaints during his upcoming trip to Brussels. Reactions from parties that leave tips against government manipulation.
