Cyprus and the Petitions Committee discussed EBE Famagusta and Foreign Minister

The current developments in the Cyprus issue, the visit of the European Parliament Committee on Petitions to Cyprus on May 7 and 8 on the issue of Famagusta, the opening of the Deryneia roadblock, and business missions abroad were among the topics discussed at a meeting yesterday. Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Famagusta with the Minister of Foreign Affairs Nikos Christodoulidis.

According to a statement from the Famagusta EBRD, Mr. Christodoulidis expressed the view that the talks will resume soon, based on the Guterres framework, after the appointment of the American Jane Hall Luth as the new envoy of the UN Secretary General, who is expected to come to Cyprus for exploratory contacts with interested parties.

Regarding the step-by-step visit of the Committee on Petitions, Mr. Christodoulidis pointed out that the purpose of the visit is to confirm and bring back to the forefront the written statement of the European Parliament dated 14/02/2012 which provides, inter alia, for the implementation of resolutions 550 (1984) and 789 (1992) of the UN Security Council, on the return of Famagusta to its legal inhabitants.

The President of EBE Famagusta Augustinos Papathomas expressed the wish that Famagusta will finally open for its residents and that this can be combined with the upcoming opening of the roadblock in Deryneia.
