The Municipal Councilor of EDEK Famagusta, Dimitris Dimitriou (Savoullis), expresses his support through a written announcement to the Mayor of Famagusta, Alexis Galanos, on the occasion of the opening of the Deryneia roadblock.
This announcement:
"The latest actions and initiatives of the Mayor of occupied Famagusta for the non-opening of the Deryneia roadblock have my support as they move in the right direction.
As many times I and EDEK have publicly stated, the opening of the Deryneia roadblock is a decision in the wrong direction as:
- will facilitate unfair competition to the detriment of Greek Cypriot farmers and small businesses,
- will facilitate the movement of tourists from Protaras and Ayia Napa to occupied Famagusta with the corresponding effects on tourism in the two areas and finally,
- will contribute to the possible development of the closed area of Famagusta and the elimination of any possibility for its return to its legal residents.
The latest actions and initiatives of the Mayor of occupied Famagusta for not opening the Deryneia roadblock have my support as they move in the right direction. "
