"Considering that the area of the Free Province of Famagusta has no Green Point, the Ministry of Agriculture, Rural Development and Environment, in cooperation with the Competent Services, immediately completes the evaluation and completion of the design of the new network of Green Points in the area," he said. The Minister of Agriculture, Rural Development and Environment, Mr. Costas Kadis, in a meeting he had on Friday with the Mayors and Commune Mayors of the area, in the Community of Avgorou.
Mr. Kadis stressed, at the same time, that priority will be given to the areas of Famagusta with the possibility of financing the Green Points from the current programming period, which ends in 2022. In this context, he referred to the licensing of the Green Point in Paralimni and the start of the co-financing of three new Green Points, in Avgorou, Deryneia and Sotira.
During the meeting of the Minister with the representatives of the Local Authorities, the urgent need for construction of new Green Points was identified, which will contribute to the rational management of waste by offering alternative solutions to the residents of the area. The Minister informed that the Department of Environment has already made on-site visits to proposed sites for the construction of Green Points within the boundaries of the above Municipalities and Communities. The representatives of the local authorities expressed their strong desire to build the Green Points as soon as possible, assuring that any problems that may arise will be addressed.
The meeting was attended by representatives of the Municipalities of Ayia Napa, Paralimni, Sotira and Deryneia, as well as the Community Councils of Avgoros, Achna Forest, Liopetri, Frenaros and Ag. Georgiou Acheritou.
