The Home Affairs Committee does not need calls to 'take the matter seriously'. It is on her initiative that the problem emerged ", states in a written statement the Chairman of the Parliamentary Committee of the Interior and AKEL MP Eleni Mavrou, in response to the Mayor of Ayia Napa for the problem of noise pollution.
The statement as it is
Response of the Chairman of the Parliamentary Committee on Home Affairs to yesterday's statement of the Mayor of Ayia Napa on the problem of noise pollution.
In a statement yesterday, the Mayor of Ayia Napa called for an end to the systematic harassment and noise pollution before it is too late for tourism.
The problem has, once again, recently emerged in a debate in the Parliamentary Committee on Home Affairs.
Surprisingly, instead of the Mayor of Ayia Napa complaining about the fact that the relevant legislation has remained inactive for a year and a half, he criticizes the Parliament because he does not immediately vote for a general and vague Bill, recently submitted by the government.
The Mayor of Ayia Napa is, it seems, with the impression that the relevant bill restores the previous regime. But if he had asked for better information, he would have realized that the submitted bill only consolidates anarchy, since there are no provisions in the Penal Code, nor out of court, nor other alternative procedures for enforcing order.
The Home Affairs Committee does not need calls to "take the matter seriously". It was on her initiative that the problem emerged.
Instead, it is the executive branch that has failed to control the illegality and the mayor of Ayia Napa should have been better informed.
