With the happy voices of the young children of the Ayia Napa Kindergarten, the Sculpture Park was filled yesterday, Tuesday (April 9, 2019), who during their visit planted their own trees in the Park.
The children, the Director Mrs. Eva Costa and the teachers were welcomed and guided in the Park by the Chairman of the Organizing Committee of the International Sculpture Symposium of Ayia Napa Mr. Kikis Konstantinos and the Cultural Officer of the Municipality Mrs. Maria Tofini Tsantila, who welcomed the positive response and their willingness to participate in their turn, in the planned tree planting that the Municipality has carried out, with the aim of the environmental and aesthetic upgrade of the Sculpture Park.
They also had the opportunity to see the sculptors up close to create their works and to visit the "Argo" bridge. At the end of the tour both the Director of the Kindergarten Mrs. Eva Costa and the teachers, obviously excited by the result, congratulated the Mayor Mr. Giannis Karousos, the Members of the Municipal Council, the Organizing Committee of the Sculpture Symposium, the Cultural Officer of the Municipality and all those who contributed to the creation of the Park, which they characterized as a great, unique cultural point of reference, the like of which they found will not exist anywhere else in the world.
Today's tree planting was actively supported by the Movement of Ecologists for Cooperation of Citizens of Famagusta Province since it was attended by the Executive Secretary of Famagusta District Mr. Michalis Paraschos and the Famagusta District Officer together with the children of their own trees.
In his statements, Mr. Paraschos welcomed the initiative of the Municipality, which has taken care of the participation of students and children of the public schools of the Municipality and the Province in the tree planting as well as for his announcement to carry out tree planting of 15,000 saplings, which he characterized as possible and worthy praises.
"As an Environmental Movement," he said, "we consider that as a small Province of Famagusta, which is under the Turkish yoke - a large part of its territory is under occupation and a small territory of about 13% is the Free Province of Famagusta.
"Through these actions" he continued, "Municipalities and Communities are called to unite and do their best to leave a legacy for the next generations for young children, who will continue the path that we ourselves have carve and we believe that we will go better and further ".
He also assured that the Movement of Ecologists and Citizens' Cooperation and the Famagusta District Committee will be next to the Municipality of Ayia Napa for tree planting but also for any other progressive actions and actions of the Municipality.
