The immediate opening of the Deryneia roadblock was demanded by a group of citizens, who gathered on Thursday night, just a few meters away from the Deryneia roadblock, on Famagusta Avenue.

About XNUMX people gathered from Larnaca, Limassol, Nicosia and Deryneia and said that the event took place spontaneously to demand the immediate opening of the roadblock and the reunification of Cyprus.

In his statements, Nikos Michael, a member of the Initiative Group in favor of the opening of the Deryneia roadblock, stated that "tonight's rally is not under the auspices of any political party. It is a spontaneous initiative of some people that we demand the immediate opening of the roadblock ".

He described the decision to open the roadblock as "historic" because, as he explained, "Deryneia is a semi-occupied Municipality and the opening of the roadblock will lead to the development of the Municipality and beyond".

Besides, Nikos Lilis stated that "every attempt to break the wall that separates us is in the right direction. We believe that it will bring the communities even closer and in addition to the efforts of the political leadership, the citizens should push the political leadership to move forward ".

He also stated that "44 years is too many, many accomplishments have been created which every year make difficult the effort for a solution of the Cyprus problem. "The young people who gathered tonight at the Deryneia roadblock now want to break this impasse and move forward with a solution to the Cyprus problem."

It is noted that at the same time a few meters from the roadblock of Deryneia, in the Cultural Center of occupied Famagusta, EDEK held a protest against the opening of this roadblock and the ongoing illegal Turkish occupation.

At the point near the roadblock of Deryneia, there was a strong police force from the relevant Police Station and men of MMAD.
