"They were not afraid to adopt two children with disabilities and they made us very happy"

He is a wonderful child; always smiling, happy, kind and aching.

The purity and purity of his soul shines in his brown eyes. He went through very difficult times but he feels happy that he is not among the abandoned children, of loneliness, but in the luckiest ones…

Dimitris Giannis reports on ant1iwo:

"I was born on 23/2/1992 and I live in Deryneia. I never met my biological parents. When I was an infant, together with my twin brother, they left us in the orphanage. I do not know if they abandoned us because they did not have the money to raise us or because we had some form of disability.

But I was very lucky in my life…

My adoptive parents did not want to separate me from my brother and they adopted us both. They did all the necessary procedures and in 1994 they traveled from Cyprus to Yugoslavia with the sole purpose of holding us in their arms.

When they learned from the orphanage officials that we have some form of disability, they smiled and replied: "If they were our biological children and had a disability, wouldn't we love them?" What's the difference; We will love them and we will always support them "and that's what they did! They love us and are by our side every moment, every minute. This is why we never wanted to look for our biological parents. I have heard that there are couples who think they can raise a child with a disability but they could not stand it so they put it back as if it were an object.
This is the reason why I thank God every day, I am glad that he sent these parents to me and my brother.

About my disability…

I was diagnosed with Asperger syndrome (also known as Asperger's disorder or simply Asperger's), an autism spectrum disorder characterized by significant difficulties in social interaction and verbal communication while manifesting limited and repetitive behaviors and other different interests. autism spectrum disorder due to the relative preservation of language and cognitive development Physical awkwardness and informal (strange, strange) use of language are often cited as symptoms. congenital deformity involving one or both feet. The affected foot appears to have rotated inward at the ankle. The foot points downwards and inwards, with the soles of the feet facing backwards.Unless, people with feet clubs often appear to be walking on their ankles or on the sides of his legs ς).

I did speech therapy, occupational therapy, physiotherapy and oxygen therapy. I went to school normally but with an escort and support program. In elementary school everything was fine but in high school I had a very difficult time. The children made fun of me every day, I was brutally bullied and I couldn't stand it…

They called me a dwarf, backward and that I looked like a Satanist. They put push-ups on my chair and they died laughing. Imagine my parents had to take me to a child psychologist and child psychiatrist. Those were the worst years of my life.

Fortunately afterwards, at the Technical School, everything was different. The children there loved me, as did my teachers. I made friends I still see.

My brother went to England to study and I really miss the truth. But I always liked to do things I love. Apart from school I also went swimming. I started when I was 6 years old and participated in dozens of competitions: Pancyprian, Panhellenic and World, winning mostly gold medals.

The most beautiful experience of my life…

It was 2015 at the World Special Olympics, held in Los Angeles, USA. I got in the sport of swimming, a gold medal in the 100µ. silver medal at 200µ. relay and bronze medal in the 100D. free.

I like diving, cycling, walking, gymnastics and I love my dog. I also really like bowling, I took part in European competitions winning 1 gold, 1 silver and 1 silver medal.
My next goal is to participate in the Special Olympics of 2019.

I love my job too! I work in the kindergarten of my village, I take care of the garden and I clean the toys. Also, if necessary, I help in the kitchen.

In my life I have always learned to say: "there are always worse". I am really happy and I wish from my soul, all the children of the world who live in an institution or orphanage, to have parents soon. "Without the caress of the mother and the father, unfortunately the children grow old before they even grow up".
