A delegation of TEVEA met with the Minister of Agriculture

The Minister of Agriculture, Natural Resources and Environment, Mr. Costas Kadis, had a meeting with representatives of the Board of Directors of the Famagusta Tourism, Commercial and Industrial Company on Thursday, July 18, 2019.

During the meeting, the members of the TEVEA delegation received information from the Minister and the representatives of the competent departments of the Ministry who attended the meeting on several issues concerning the businessmen of the Famagusta District and all the residents of the Province.

Specifically, information was provided about the project being carried out in the Kokkinogremos area, which concerns the construction of storage tanks and a water supply network. The project is in progress and so far 3 tanks have been constructed with a total storage space of 15.000 cubic meters of water which is channeled to local municipalities. By the end of 2022, it is estimated that the pipeline connecting the tanks with the desalination plant of Dhekelia and the construction of the remaining tanks will be completed, raising the total volume of water that can be stored to 36.000 cubic meters, an amount that is considered sufficient to meet the needs. The control procedures of the agricultural products that are channeled to the market through the roadblocks from the occupied areas were also discussed and suggestions were made by the TEVEA delegation to improve the process. There was also a discussion on the issue of quarries operating in the Province of Famagusta. TEVEA expressed its concerns about the rock reserves and asked the Ministry to expand the quarries, something that should be done in consultation with the British Bases and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The meeting discussed the better protection of the natural environment of the Province of Famagusta and especially the Sea but also the need to find solutions regarding the creation of golf courses in the Province of Famagusta. Issues related to the creation of green spots in Municipalities and Communities in the Province as well as the issue of access to the beaches by the sea were also discussed. The issue of access to the beaches from the sea will be discussed with the other stakeholders, the Ministry of Energy, Trade and Industry, the Ministry of Shipping and the Local Authorities of the Province of Famagusta.
