Seven Complaints in Paralimni and Ayia Napa for illegal fishing activities

After coordinated patrols at sea and on land in the areas of Larnaca, Paralimni and Limassol, on Sunday, May 10, 2020, the Department of Fisheries and Marine Research (TATHE) of the Ministry of Agriculture, Rural Development and Environment, successfully dealt with ten new cases of violation.

During a patrol in the Larnaca-Famagusta area, 20 inspections and 19 inspections were carried out on fishing boats and fishermen. In this context, they were made four complaints relating to fishing in closed areas for the protection of fishing, in particular in the Marine Protected Areas of Paralimni and Cape Greco, a complaint for fishing by boat and the use of static longlines during a prohibited period, a complaint for amateur fishing with an unlicensed speargun and a complaint for violating the Fisheries Law.

In addition, during a patrol in the sea area of ​​Limassol, nine checks were carried out while a boat with three people was found, which were reported for fishing with a boat and unlicensed networks.

All fishing gear were confiscated as evidence and fines were imposed on the offenders, in violation of the Law on Fisheries and Fisheries Laws and their Regulations.
