Palliative Care Center (CAF) for cancer patients in the province of Famagusta, will create the Center of Offer and Love "Agios Christoforos" (KEPA) in Paralimni.

The Vice President of the Board of Directors of KEPA Dimitris Papaefelthontos told KYPE that "the idea for the creation of a Center for Palliative Care for Cancer Patients belongs to the blessed Father Evelthontas who has been planning it since 2010. However, he did not manage to make his idea a reality in 2011. then the Home for the Elderly was expanded in such a way that it was transformed into a Center for the Care and Rehabilitation of the Elderly ".

He added that "the Center opened in 2014 and since then in memory of Father Evelthon, a room with two beds was provided to be used free of charge by our cancer patients who are in the final stages of the disease. In the province of Famagusta there is no such care for free, with the result that patients go to Nicosia for their treatments and are hosted at the Oncology Center of the Bank of Cyprus or in Arodafnousa, while there was a problem of go - come for their relatives ».

Mr. Papaevelthontos also noted that "from 2014 until today, more than 25 people have been hosted at the KEPA Palliative Care Center. We have excellent cooperation with PASYKAF, the Anti-Cancer Association, but also the Oncology Center, as a result of which our fellow citizens, who are in the final stage of cancer, receive the palliative care they need free of charge at KAF, while at the same time helping their families, since they do not have to come and go in Nicosia ".

Answering a relevant question, he said that "now we are in the implementation stage of the architectural plans for the Cancer Relief Center and we plan as soon as the final permits are received, to begin its construction within the summer. "Above the expansion of KEPA that took place in 2014, a specialized floor will be built where it will accommodate both the Palliative Care Center and the elderly who are bedridden and need more care."

We expect, he continued that "by the summer of 2022, the Cancer Care Center will be ready to host our first fellow human beings. At the same time, an effort will be made for close cooperation with the Ministry of Health in order to approve the plans that are in the pipeline ", he said and noted that" the Center already employs 10 nurses, while there is cooperation with a specialist doctor, neurologist and physician. With the operation of the Center, there will be specialized staff, such as doctors, nurses and caregivers ".

In another question, Mr. Papaevelthontos said that "the whole project will cost over 350 thousand euros. "Already a family from the area, who at this stage wishes to remain anonymous, expressed interest and offered a large sum of money for the construction of the floor."

The Board of Directors of KEPA, said "expresses warm thanks and gratitude to the specific family but also to those who expressed a desire to contribute in any way to the creation of the Center."

He also noted that those who wish to contribute financially to the Center can deposit money in the account that exists in the Hellenic Bank in the account: 471 - 01 - G45975 - 01
