Controversy seems to have erupted between the Mayor of Paralimni and the District of Famagusta on the occasion of yesterday's publication of the newspaper "Phileleftheros". In its report, the newspaper refers to an illegal property in front of a hotel in Protaras and within the protection zone of the beach, for which, as reported, the District Administration asked the Municipality to intervene to terminate the works.
The Mayor of Paralimni, for his part, commenting on the warnings of the Prefect for measures against the municipal council for this property, said that it is the District Administration that is illegal and not the Municipality of Paralimni, calling him to say what he will do with an illegal dock that the District Administration tolerates.
In yesterday's article, the newspaper reports that the Famagusta District Administration threatens the Municipal Council of Paralimni with legal proceedings regarding the case of an illegal property on the beach of Protaras. According to the District Administration, the Municipal Council "turns a blind eye" and does not proceed with the necessary measures to remove the illegality.
As mentioned in a letter to the newspaper on the occasion of a relevant article by Mr. Antonis Loizos, the property concerns an unlicensed building in front of a hotel, the construction of which began around the end of June this year. According to the District Administration, this property operates as a restaurant where food and drinks are prepared and sold, while the tender announced by the municipality concerned a mobile canteen.
According to the District Administration, when it was ascertained by the beach guard that construction works had begun in the area of the premises, the matter was reported to the Famagusta Police Department and the municipality was asked, as the competent building authority, to take appropriate action to terminate of work.
However, according to the District Administration, the mayor of Paralimni informed in person that the municipality intends to take legal action against the offenders.
For the Famagusta District Administration, the current situation with the specific, unlicensed building can not be accepted and emphasizes that the restoration of legality is urgent. In fact, the District Administration states that if the operation of the kiosks presupposed the erection / construction of a building, the lease of state land by the municipality for this purpose should precede, as well as the provision of the relevant authorization by the Council of Ministers, but also the issuance of the town planning and building permit.
"From the verbal information that we could have from the municipality, the tender concerned the issuance of a licensing license and / or the installation of a mobile canteen on specific beaches", says the District Administration.
