AKEL MP Linos Papagiannis accuses AKEL of a communication policy aimed at hurting ELAM.

Specifically, the ELAM MP states, among other things, that the joint proposal submitted by the opposition parties for Education was their own proposal.

However, as he adds, led by AKEL, all opposition parties did not accept the inclusion of ELAM in this joint proposal.

Here is the statement of ELAM MP Linos Papagiannis:

The preservation of the public school must be the first goal, as the existence of even the slightest possibility of the abolition of the public school will have unpleasant consequences for the whole society, since many children of our compatriots will be in danger of not being able to receive even basic education.

At the same time, I can not but refer to the attitude of the other parties, led by AKEL. The proposal submitted by the other six opposition parties was also our proposal, but it seems that AKEL's communication policy, which aims to hurt our Movement, prevents them from accepting to join the National People's Party. Front (ELAM) in this proposal.

I hope that the teachers will find out what the truth is and who put their partisan expediencies above the collective interest.

In closing, we call on the Government to stop its extremist attitude, as the effects of the problems that have been created will be paid first of all by the students themselves.

A statement on the joint proposal of the opposition parties was made by the parliamentary representative of AKEL, George Loukaidis, without making any reference to ELAM.

The statement of George Loukaidis is as follows:

"The joint session of the Parliamentary Committees on Labor and Education ended with the postponement of today's debate until Friday. This development came mainly as a result of the fact that the Minister of Education agreed to put on the negotiating table and discuss the joint proposal of the opposition parties to suspend the measures of the Council of Ministers of July 4th.

This is a positive development, because we believe that it can provide a way out of the deadlocks created by the unilateral decisions taken by the government. We believe that the proposal submitted by the opposition parties is solid and really gives prospects, so that, if it is utilized by the President of the Republic, this crisis that has so plagued the educational world and parents and society as a whole will end. " .

Meanwhile, in another announcement, ELAM attacks AKEL again, on the occasion, as a press release claims, issued on August 21 in Turkish with wishes to the Turkish Cypriots for the feast of Bairami.

ELAM accuses AKEL that a few days ago it did not take a stand for the celebrations in Kokkina, nor whether Irini Charalambidou's statement for the abolition of the religious lesson is an official position of the party.

This announcement:

"The National Popular Front (ELAM) denounces the energy of AKEL to issue a Press Release in Turkish on August 21, 2018, with wishes to the Turkish Cypriots for the celebration of Bairami, at the same time that the same party did not issue No announcement was made a few days earlier about the provocative celebrations in Kokkina, nor was it made public whether Irini Charalambidou's embarrassing statement to abolish the religious lesson from schools is an official line of the party.

"Some people seem to be bothered by any reference to the Christian religion, to Greece and to the Greek Nation, but they do NOT have any problems with the Muslim religion, Turkish chauvinism."
