Rapid increase in building permits in Famagusta

The issuance of building permits in the province of Famagusta increased by 21,4% compared to 2017.

A significant increase of 16,5% was recorded in the number of building permits issued by municipal authorities and district administrations in July 2018, compared to July 2017, while a 10% increase was recorded in the first seven months of this year. compared to the same period last year.

By province, the largest increase in the number of building permits in July 2018, compared to July 2017, occurred in Nicosia, reaching a significant percentage of 38,6%, followed by Limassol with an increase of 30% and Famagusta with increase of 21,4%. On the contrary, a decrease was recorded in Larnaca and Paphos.

Specifically, according to data released on Wednesday by the Statistical Service, the number of building permits in July 2018 rose to 589, compared to 492 in July last year, while the total value of permits reached € 253,4 million, against € 202,2 million in July last year.

The total area amounted to 217,0 thousand square meters, compared to 176,1 thousand square meters in July 2017.

With these permits, 632 housing units are planned to be built, compared to 537 in July last year.

Moreover, according to the Statistical Service, during the period January - July 2018, 3.699 building permits were issued compared to 3.362 in the corresponding period of 2017, showing an increase of 10%.

The total value of these permits increased by 21,5% and the total area by 25,5%. The number of housing units increased by 23,7%.

According to the Statistical Service, building permits are an important indication of future activity in the construction sector.

By province

In Nicosia, the number of building permits rose in July 2018 to 208, compared to 150 in July last year, recording a large increase of 38,6%.

The annual increase of building permits in Limassol amounted to 30%, at 195, from 150 in July 2017, while in Famagusta they increased by 21,4%, to 34, from 28 last year.

On the contrary, there was a decrease of 10,7% in the number of building permits in Larnaca, at 75, from 84 and a decrease of 3,75% in Paphos, at 77, from 80.
