The plenary session of the Municipal Council Sotira unanimously expressed the support in principle to the main policy axes of the Ministry of Interior regarding the philosophy of local government reform, but also the benefits that will result from the consolidation of services and the concentration of more responsibilities to local authorities. benefit of the citizen ".
Answering a relevant question, Mr. Takkas said that "the Municipal Council expressed reservations regarding the short time frame in which the vote on the bill is promoted without prior satisfactory consultation with the local authorities and on the other hand informing it. the citizen ".
The Municipal Council Sotiras, said the Mayor, "also unanimously expressed the view that exhaustive consultations should be held with all affected parties but also to make more information to the citizens on the matter. In particular, it was stated that the goal should be the changes that benefit the citizen in terms of bureaucracy and upgrading the standard of living and not to focus on the economic benefits that will result from the reform.
He also noted that "at the meeting of the House it was also mentioned that the government should be decisive in the abolition of the District Administrations and in the transformation of provincial councils which are modern, flexible and with more powers to the local authorities".
Mayor Sotiras also said that he would proceed "with a series of contacts both with the local authorities of the province of Famagusta and with the Ministry of Interior, in order to safeguard the interests of the Municipality of Sotiras and its citizens, regardless of the final drafting of the bill." .
