The sixteen defendants in the case of the Paphos Landfill and the Kosi Landfill, which is being tried by the Permanent Criminal Court of Nicosia, responded today by not accepting the accusations they are facing.

The process was postponed to January 2017, in order to give enough judicial time for some facts to be admitted, as well as witnesses.

The defendants in the case are thirteen individuals and three legal entities, facing a total of 104 charges.
The accused in the case are Dimitrios Patsalidis (Municipal Employee), Michalis Pantis (Civil Servant), Antonios Kourouzidis (Retired), Stelios Papadopoulos (Civil Servant), Christos Petrou (Koullos) Lapis (Public Employee) ), Nikolas Koullipis (Doctor), Imad Baqle (Mechanical Engineer), Savvas Vergas (former Mayor of Paphos), Eftychios Malikidis (former Director of SAPA), Dimitrios Giannakopoulos (Retired), Enviroplan Development Consulting Company ), Thefanis Lolos (Chemical Engineer), Helector Cyprus Ltd and NE MIDORIACO LTD.

Defendants face charges of conspiracy to commit sabotage, harassment of a civil servant, bribery of public officials, misappropriation of property by a public official, misappropriation of a public official, abuse of power, abuse of power, favoritism by a public official, offenses of money laundering, fraud and misuse of trust by a public official, conspiracy to commit a crime, embezzlement of money with false representations, preparation of a forged document, circulation of a forged document, fraudulent and fraudulent accounts public officials.

In the meantime, during today's trial, the accused Enviroplan Meletiki Consultants of Development & Technical Works SA and Thefanis Lolos were acquitted of the charge of decimation of a public official.

In addition, the defense attorney of the accused Nikola Koullapi requested the suspension of the restrictive conditions that apply, under which the accused can not travel abroad, because on 19 to 24 October 2016 his client will have to travel abroad, for business reasons.

The accusing Authority did not object to the request of the defense attorney of Nikolas Koullapis and the President of the court approved the request.

However, he stated that from October 24 onwards until the next hearing, the same restrictive conditions will apply to both Nikolas Koullapis and the other defendants, except the defendants Savva Verga and Eftychiou Mallikidis, who are serving prison sentences for the scandal. of SAPA.

The number of witnesses in the case is 164.

It is recalled that the case also allegedly involved the Greek businessman Leonidas Bombolas, President of Helector, against whom a European arrest warrant was issued and the Cypriot authorities requested his extradition to Cyprus.

However, the Athens Board of Appeals had rejected the request of the Cypriot prosecuting authorities for the extradition of Leonidas Bombolas to Cyprus in relation to this case, as it ruled that if crimes were committed they were committed in Greece and therefore has jurisdiction to try them. Greek justice.

The Nicosia Criminal Court scheduled eight hearings next January, ie on 11, 12, 13, 16, 17, 18, 19 and 20 January 2017.
