It was created in 1985, on the initiative of the fighters of EOKA 1955-59, of the community of Avgoros. It was erected at the place of sacrifice of the first fallen member of the EOKA organization, Modestos Pantelis, from Liopetri, who was killed by an electric shock, in his attempt to cut one of the high voltage electrical cables that was passing from the specific area.
The visitor, after crossing an alley with 111 tall cypress trees, will see to the right and left of the propylae six marble slabs. In the first one he can read, about the basic principles that had been set for the creation of the monument, in the second one about the factors of creation of the monument, in the third and the fourth the historical retrospection of Cyprus from 6020 BC. until 1974 AD and finally on the fifth and sixth for the foundation and the unveiling of the monument by the then Minister of Finance and later Governor of the Central Bank Mr. Christodoulos Christodoulou. The visitor, proceeding to the main Monument, sees on bronze plates the figures of the 238 heroic martyrs, who fell fighting for the Freedom of the homeland, while inside the Tomb he can admire the 108 figures of the heroes of the national liberation struggle of EOK. A., of which 38 are in bronze reliefs.
A Chapel has been erected at the site of the Monument, which is symbolically dedicated to the First Martyr Agios Stefanos, the First Called Apostle Andreas and the Modest Patriarch of Jerusalem in memory of the first martyr of the EOKA struggle, Modestos Pante. The Chapel together with the Monument, emphasize the indivisible struggle and the need for coexistence of the Homeland with Religion. In the area of the monument and the church, four wooden stakes have been placed, which refer to the era of 1955 and which remind the visitor of the way of action and sacrifice of the hero Modestos Pantelis.
