For the progress in the opening of the roadblocks in Deryneia, Pyroi and Paphos Gate, a delegation of the Committee of "Free Voters and Half-Occupied Municipalities" informed the President of the Citizens' Alliance, George Lillikas, with the latter expressing concern and doubt. whole project.

Speaking on behalf of the delegation of six mayors, after a meeting at noon, at the party offices, the Mayor of Deryneia Andros Karagiannis said that "the information we have from the President of the Republic is that in 2016 the roadblock of Deryneia will be opened first and then the rest will follow, as it was decided in the meeting we had with the President of the Republic in May 2015 and it was announced after the President of the Republic together with the T / C leader and Mr. Eide ".

For his part, Mr. Lillikas said that almost a whole year has passed and nothing substantial has been done. He also expressed concern that with the finding of a stalemate in the talks, the Turkish side will eventually back down, as it has done in the past.

During the meeting, the delegation of mayors informed George Lillikas about the problems faced by their municipalities and which arise from the existence of the occupying army and the barbed wire. As Mr. Karagiannis said, these mainly concern the destruction of the cultural heritage, but also of the natural environment.

The mayors asked the President of the Citizens' Alliance to promote the solution of the problems, in his contacts with the involved Ministries and bodies.

Mr. Lillikas, for his part, stated that the semi-occupied and remote municipalities are carrying out a national project. He added that the government should offer new attractive incentives for the resettlement of young couples and the activation of small and medium-sized enterprises, thus maintaining life in the face of the barbed wire of the occupation.

Regarding the problems faced by the municipalities, Mr. Lillikas particularly referred to the effort of the occupying forces to dismantle, in essence, the dead zone, while he also spoke about the problems of the cultivators in these areas.

The citizens of these municipalities should not be left to solve the problems posed by the behavior of the peacekeeping force on their own, he said.

Finally, he called on the Government to realize the peculiarities of the semi-occupied and remote municipalities and to face them with particular sensitivity, responding to their major problems with solutions.

The Committee of "Free Akrites and Semi-Occupied Municipalities" consists of the Municipalities of Nicosia, Aglantzia, Agios Dometios, Athienos, Geri and Deryneia.
