The release of the abbot Ephraim with the payment of a bail of 300.000 euros and with the restrictive conditions of the ban on leaving Mount Athos and the country and the appearance at regular intervals in a police station, was decided by the Board of Appeals on Thursday.

The appellants accepted the request to replace the temporary detention on parole, submitted to the Council by the accused archimandrite, and ordered his release with restrictive conditions.

According to the parliament, the abbot Ephraim is released from prison on bail of 300.000 thousand euros, while he is also subject to the restrictive conditions of the obligation to appear at a police station at regular intervals and to be banned from leaving Mount Athos and the country.

A similar proposal was submitted to the Council by the Prosecutor of the Court of Appeals, P. Mantzounis, who suggested that the abbot of the Vatopedi Ephraim Monastery remain free, with the imposition of a financial guarantee and restrictive conditions.

The prosecutor held essentially the same position as the one he expressed from the beginning, after the apology of Archimandrite Ephraim, which was contrary to that of the investigator Irini Kalou who decided that the mountaineer should be remanded in custody.

According to the proposal submitted by Mr. Matzounis to the Board of Appeals, Abbot Ephraim should be released on bail of 200.000 and the restrictive conditions of the ban on leaving the country and the obligation to appear twice a month at a police station.

After his pre-trial detention last December, in a cell of the Korydallos prison, which was given to him exclusively, the archimandrite had requested his release from the case investigator, who, despite the contrary prosecutor's opinion, had rejected the appeal.
