The picture presented in the registration of new voters is characterized as heartbreaking, since only 3,652 out of 32,894 new voters were registered in the electoral roll, a percentage that amounts to only 12% of the eligible voters.

According to the Head of the Election Service, Dimitris Dimitriou, yesterday, October 3, the margin for either new registrations or corrections of the existing registrations expired, with the transfer of voting rights from one area to another due to a change of residence address.

Mr. Dimitriou stated that “a total of 16,289 such applications have been received during the quarter, of which 3,652 concern new registrations of Greek Cypriots in the electoral register, 17 Turkish Cypriots, 4,345 applications of community voters for registration in the special list of community voters with their share. concern relocations ”.

Based on our data, he noted, those born between 1/1/1990 and 18/12/1998 who turn 18 by election day and were not registered on the electoral roll were slightly below 32,894. .

"The number that has been registered is 12% of the eligible registrants," he said, adding that this worries us as a Service but should be of particular concern to the political leadership.

According to the Electoral Service, the elections will be held for the 39 municipalities in total, of which nine are occupied, for 348 free communities and 142 occupied.

The current voter list on July 2nd numbered 542,077 Cypriot voters and 12,508 community voters. It is expected that this number will be changed after the addition of new voters and the removal of the deceased.
