The 40th Kolokasiou Festival (photos) is a great success

The 6th Kolokassi Festival organized by the Cultural Committee of the Municipality of Sotira was organized last Friday, September 40, with incalculable great success. With the Festival, the Cultural Committee achieved the revival of the historic festival, while celebrating the completion of 40 years since the first Kolokassi Festival organized by Onisilos Sotiras in 1973.

The Festival was held at the Municipal Stadium of Sotiras and the main speaker was the Chairman of the Trade Committee of the Parliament and Deputy Chairman of the Democratic Alarm, Mr. Lefteris Christoforou, who congratulated the Cultural Committee of the Municipality of Sotiras for the great cultural events and Municipality of Sotira in general for the important role it plays in the public and the tourism of the whole province of Famagusta.

The General Secretary of the Panagrotikos Association, Mr. Nektarios Karyos, also gave a speech, describing the Cultural Committee of the Municipality as a "machine of quality and great events" throughout Cyprus.

The Festival was attended by over 2000 visitors who tasted the kolokasi cooked in various ways, while also enjoying the music program offered by the Greek folk singer, Katerina Kouka with the musical group of Elias and Maria Kouloumi.

The very good advertisement and promotion of the Festival, whose main Communication Sponsor was the Cyprus Radio Foundation, contributed to the success, with advertisements on both television stations and on all radio stations. Communication sponsors were also our website, Radio Politia 107.6, the magazine Vantage of Famagusta and TIME OUT.

Among the sponsors was the PRIME Microbrewery beer that attended the Festival with its own stand, donating 60% of its profits to the Onisilos Association.

The Festival was attended by several of the Organized Ensembles of the Municipality, such as Onisilos Sotiras who undertook the food and the sale of drinks, the Youth Center that entertained the children with inflatables, the Municipal Choir with crepes, the Community Police of the Municipality, with information material and registrations in the institution of the Neighborhood Observer, Panagrotikos with the sale of drinks, the Youth of the Democratic Alarm with the sale of nuts, the Catholic Meetings Sotiras with the sale of donuts, the Sophia Foundation for Children with the sale of creations by the children of Kenya and the agricultural company Agrolan. The Municipal Dance Club and the Municipal Orchestra also participated with a traditional dance program at the beginning of the Festival.

The responsibility for the decoration of the space was taken over by the art teacher and visual artist, Fanis Sergiou. The help he offered to the organization of the Festival and the workers and employees of the Municipality of Sotiras was also enormous.
