The 5th Salamis University of the Holy Metropolis of Famagusta started

The Salamis Free University of Famagusta opened its gates for the fifth consecutive year, co-organized by the Holy Diocese of Constantia-Famagusta and the University of Cyprus. More than two hundred people have declared their participation in this year's round of lectures, which is expected to be of particular interest after the innovative changes that have shaped this year's program.

The lectures will take place once a month on Thursday in the old church of Agios Georgios in Paralimni, while two visits to archeological sites will take place on Saturday.

The inauguration ceremony that took place on Thursday, October 15, 2015 was greeted by the Most Venerable Metropolitan of Constantia-Famagusta Mr. Vassilios who expressed his joy for the strengthening of this institution with the beginning of the fifth cycle and thanked the University of Cyprus under the lectures are set.

At the same time, he made a presentation of this year's program, with special reference to the two visits to archaeological sites, the lecture of the Dean of the Balamanand Theological School on "Christianity and Islam", as well as the round table discussion chaired by the Minister of Education Costa Kadis who will refer to the burning issue of Education.

On behalf of the Rector of the University of Cyprus Mr. Konstantinos Christofidis, Professor Stavros Fotiou addressed a greeting. In his greeting, Mr. Christofides expresses his joy that this institution now continues for the fifth consecutive year and warmly thanked Metropolitan Constantias because with his own initiative this year's cycle acquires more interest with the addition of new actions.

The University of Cyprus stressed that the Rector "invests in this institution and seeks its continued support. In this direction, eight Salamis are organized this year in Cyprus and one abroad (London) with the broader goal of continuous contact and communication with the citizens to share their visions with the wider society ".

This was followed by the first lecture of the year by Professor at the Department of Educational Sciences of the University of Cyprus and Director of the UNESCO Chair for Gender Equality, Mrs. Mary Koutselini-Ioannidou, entitled "The position of women in Cyprus today: Why we do not care inequality? '

Developing her topic with the help of statistical surveys conducted in Cyprus and at European level, Ms. Koutselini referred to key and current aspects of everyday life through which it is understood that there is indeed discrimination and inequality between the sexes, in a man and woman

Then there was the opportunity to discuss with the participants to ask clarifying questions and positions on the whole topic.
