As it turns out, women and men experience the same degree of work stress. The magnitude of the problem is worrying, reaching 70,2% of employees who experience stress at work (often and very often). Seven out of ten employees are in a state of stress and two out of ten experience health effects due to stressful conditions.

Worse still, 16.3% of employees report being victims of violent behavior and isolation by the company's management and 17% by colleagues.

Also, 79% of the employees stated that they do not realize that substantial efforts are being made by the employer to reduce stress, while on the contrary the remaining 21% see such efforts.

Also, another important element is related to bad working relationships and bad interpersonal relationships, in workplaces, which translate into work bullying, with a rate of over 15%.

These data are included, among other findings, in the research conducted by the Cyprus Safety and Health Association.

The survey was conducted in the period from October 2014 to January 2015, online and involved 523 employees, men and women, between the ages of 18-60 years across Cyprus. According to the Health and Safety Association, the sample consisted mainly of graduates of higher education and were in full-time positions in medium and large enterprises, focusing on the province of Nicosia. Finally, the questionnaire was answered by 277 women or 53% of the sample and 246 men or 47%. The error rate is around ± 4,25%.

Only 23,3% of the respondents state that they have used sick leave for reasons related to work stress. The most frequent absence was three days. Of the 23,3% who stated that their health condition had been affected, 59,3% reported migraines and musculoskeletal pain (neck, etc.) as the most common effect.

Finally, the survey shows that 85,3% of employees are aware of safety and health legislation, while a small percentage, 14,7% say they are ignorant.
