Kallis Antoniou, 70, from Avgorou, who is accused of attempted murder of his fellow villager Panagiotis Solomos, 67, committed on November 9, 2015, apologized today before the Permanent Criminal Court of Larnaca - Famagusta.

Antoniou had been summoned to apologize by the Criminal Court on January 4, while on the same day he issued an interim decision judging that a case against the 70-year-old has been proven at first sight.

In his unequivocal statement, the accused referred in detail to his state of health, his personal circumstances, the events of the case and stated that he was not the one who shot Panagiotis Solomou since, as he characteristically said, "I am not a man who wants the evil of anyone. "Someone else shot him and the police should have investigated this case better, but they did not."

He also stated that he did not know why Solomou said that he shot him, noted that "he was at home that day" and expressed regret for the incident that happened to his fellow villager.

"I assure you that I have nothing to do with this case in which I am accused. I'm innocent. I have confidence in the judgment of the Court and in justice that I will be acquitted and I will be acquitted "he said and noted that when he was arrested on November 9, 2015 and transferred to the Famagusta Police Department in Paralimni, he voluntarily gave his consent to investigate the clothes, body and his car for gunpowder samples.

After reading the irresponsible statement of the accused, Giannis Polychronis, defense attorney of Kallis Antoniou, called five defense witnesses before the Criminal Court.

At the end of today's proceedings, the President of the Criminal Court set February 3 and 6 as dates for the continuation of the case and is expected to be submitted, among others, by a private expert in ballistics and firearms and the medical examiner Panikos Stavrianos.
