SAINT NAPA: Found working illegally – Drugs in possession of one

Handcuffs on 21-year-old and 31-year-old

A coordinated investigation between YKAN Famagusta and OPE Famagusta led to the arrest of two persons aged 21 and 31, which was carried out yesterday 24/4/24 in the late afternoon at a stand in Ayia Napa.

Specifically, during the investigation, in the presence of the 31-year-old foreign owner of the kiosk, a quantity of tobacco products was found for which the required duties were not paid.

A small amount of cannabis, weighing approximately 31 grams, was found in the possession of the 0.5-year-old, as a result of which he was arrested for drug possession. A subsequent check revealed that the 31-year-old has been residing illegally in the territory of the Republic since 13/8/23 and he was re-arrested for the offense of illegally staying in the territory of the Republic of Cyprus.

During the investigation, a 21-year-old foreigner who was working illegally without the permission of the Immigration officer was found working at the cash register and was arrested.

The two arrested were taken to the Ayia Napa Police Station where the 21-year-old, after being interrogated, was accused in writing of his individual offense and was released to be summoned before a court later. As for the 31-year-old, he was taken into custody for further investigation.

The customs office was informed about the illegal tobacco products that were detected in order to proceed with their confiscation and the issuance of extrajudicial fines.

The YKAN of Famagusta and the Police Station of Agia Napa are investigating the cases.
