The summer season has begun and the excursions to the beaches are increasing more and more already from the week of the Flood. We will all allocate money for our summer holidays in coastal areas of Cyprus. But what is problematic is the scandal in canteens and restaurants that has been perceived for years by Cypriot consumers. Bottles of water "rise" to 2 euros, soft drinks and other beverages raise prices equal to the degrees of summer temperature.

The president of the Pancyprian Union of Consumers and Quality of Life, Loukas Aristodimou assures us that so far no complaint has been made about the prices on the beaches while he stated that 95% of the premises in the tourist areas operate illegally.

"So far we have no complaints from consumers about the prices that exist on the beaches or in the facilities of coastal areas. The summer season has essentially been on track since last week. What I noticed is that over the years people are tired of the exploitation that prevails during the summer seasons. Many are those who prefer to take the essentials with them rather than buy them from the specific seaside properties ", assures Mr. Aristodimou.

Asked if there were any complaints about cots on public beaches, the president of the Pancyprian Association of Consumers and Quality of Life said: "Last year there were no complaints about the prices of cots or umbrellas. We had complaints about restaurants or canteens located near beaches. It should be noted that almost 95% of these premises are illegal, since they do not hold all the necessary licenses and this can be confirmed by the Cyprus Tourism Organization (CTO).

"What consumers need to know is that every establishment, whether it is a kiosk, a restaurant or even a small canteen on the beach, has the obligation to provide a price list or to indicate the price of the product it offers. If this does not happen, it can be reported. The main problem with product prices is in places where there is a monopoly. When there is a monopoly there is also exploitation by the owners. The biggest problem is that the necessary checks are not made by the local authorities. Nothing ever happens and everything is out of control. "Consumers always have the last word", Mr. Aristodimou answers about what consumers should be careful about.

"As for the high prices, this usually happens in areas close to luxury hotels", adds Mr. Aristodimou.
