The new generation Audi A4

to 4956In the next generation of the A4, Audi emphasizes the technologically advanced character of the car, combining the -timely and necessary- lightening, with two new hybrid versions.

Exactly 20 years after its first production, the 5th generation Audi A4 will be presented and launched in the European markets in 2014.

The new German middle model, aesthetically, as the "spies" show us, will not differ much from its familiar current lines, but on the other hand, in all the other parts of its existence it will bring a lot of great news. But let's look at them in order…

A small Audi A6

The aesthetics of the body of the new generation of Audi A4 will bring it closer than ever to the larger A6, gaining in imposing and prestige.

Thus, at the front, the bumper with the large black panels at the edges, looks as if borrowed directly from the large German sedan, while at the rear, the third volume is lifted slightly upwards, creating a slight illusion of a 4-door coupe.

Of course, once again the leader is the polygonal front grille of Audi, which especially in the new A4 will be framed by elongated luminaires with new shaped LED lamps.

However, the expected reduction of its total height will also contribute to the dynamism of the shape, which of course will also benefit the aerodynamics.

New floor, lighter and with better rigidity

For the new platform "MQB" of the VW group several reports have been made, since in fact on this floor are based most of the new models of the group with dimensions up to medium car (eg New Audi A3, VW Golf , SEAT Leon, Skoda Octavia etc.).

In the new A4, however, the platform will be different, also the new "MLB", which concerns the cars with the engine along their longitudinal axis, with the other features of course not different from the MQB platform.

This means that, benefiting from its new floor, the next Audi A4 will be lighter than the current one (about 100 kg in total), but also with better rigidity than in the past.

Note that, we will see this platform in the next Audi A8, but also in all future "Q" models of the brand.

The first Audi A4 hybrid

In the next generation of the A4, Audi plans to bring us its first hybrid mid-size model, but also more generally, its first hybrid car that will be able to charge batteries from an external power source (plug-in hybrid).

The hybrid system will consist of a 2 liter turbo gasoline engine of 225 hp and an electric motor of 35 hp, with the energy for the electric motor coming from batteries that will charge as mentioned above, from an external power source.

Apart from this version now, we will see another hybrid variant, which will replace the traditional four-wheel drive quattro, which is why it is still known today as "e-quattro".

This system will have the same 2 liter TFSI petrol engine that will send power to the front wheels of the A4, but with it there will be two electric motors that will send torque only to the rear wheels.

It is very important that, in city conditions, the system will isolate the gasoline engine and the car will be driven only by its electric motors and rear wheels!

Of course, apart from the hybrid options, the range of the new Audi A4 will bring all the well-known TFSI and TDI engines of the group, with the latter being the newer Euro6 versions.
