The inauguration of the new Prevention and Counseling Station "ACHILLEAS" (KENTHEA) in Avgorou took place yesterday.
The inauguration took place on the sidelines of an event entitled "I wish and I wish: I wish the cessation of use I wish for life without use" organized by the Station on the occasion of World Addiction Day on June 26.
The event was greeted by the President of KENTHEA, Metropolitan of Tamassos and Mountainous Isaia, the Chairman of the Board of KENTHEA, Mayor Sotiras George Takkas and the President of the Anti-Drug Council of Cyprus, Dr. Chrysanthos Georgiou.
The former Director and Scientific Officer of the Detoxification Unit 18 and over at the Psychiatric Hospital of Athens, Dr. also addressed a greeting via internet connection. Katerina Matsa.
Within the framework of the event, prizes were awarded to students who participated in prevention programs of the station.

Until 2009 in the area of Kokkinochoria there was no structure that would offer Prevention and Counseling services in matters of addiction.
Recognizing the existence of the problem of problematic substance use and addiction in the wider area, the Municipalities and Communities of the Free Province of Famagusta since 2009 in collaboration with the Addiction Treatment Center (KENTHEA) have established and financially support the Prevention Center ACHILLES".
The financial support of the station, the announcement continues, "comes partly from the Municipalities of Ayia Napa, Paralimni, Deryneia and Sotira and the Communities of Xylotympos, Xylofagos, Avgoros, Ormidias, Frenaros and Agios Georgios Acheritos". Prevention Sector
The Prevention sector provides universal and selective prevention services. Universal prevention is aimed at the general population and aims to prevent the use of illegal substances (eg, drugs), but also to prevent or delay the start of legal substances (eg, cigarettes, alcohol).

Consulting Sector
The Counseling sector “provides psychosocial-type intervention programs for all types of addiction, including substance abuse, alcohol and gambling. "The services of the counseling sector are open to all residents who need help to become addicted to drugs, as well as to the families, relatives and friends of people with addiction problems."
The Counseling department of the station follows the biopsychosocial treatment model for addiction, a model empirically documented by a number of studies that aims to identify and address all the factors that cause, contribute to and maintain addiction.
