The residents of the Community of Xylofagou proceeded today to cut off part of the highway, reacting to the presence of the firing range of the British Bases within the limits of the Community.
More than 200 residents gathered in a peaceful protest to temporarily cut off part of the highway at the flyover leading to the Xylofagou community.
According to the President of the Community Council, George Tasos, the Community Council has decided to proceed with a five-minute cut in the highway, as a sign of protest for the firing range of the British Bases. He said the Community Council had taken steps through two letters sent last February and April calling for an epidemiological study and study of the impact on the environment, as he said cancer cases were on the rise in the community.
At the same time, as he said, the existence of the firing range in Xylofagou, is also a deterrent to the development of the area. Finally, he noted that in the event that the British Base's management does not respond, the residents of the Community are ready to proceed with a cut in access to the firing range.
The five-minute road cut was made by the British Base Police, without any traffic problems.
