According to the Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Berat Albayrak, Turkey will carry out drilling for oil / gas exploration in the sea area of Famagusta, which on Thursday boarded the Turkish research ship Barbaros Hayrettin Paşa accompanied by Atun.

According to Berat Albayrak, Turkey hopes to carry out the first exploratory drilling off Famagusta at the end of 2017 after the completion of the three-dimensional seismic surveys currently being carried out by the Barbaros Hayrettin Paşa in an area of 1.695 square kilometers.

The Turkish ship, which was acquired in December 2012 for $ 130 million, is to complete its research in three to four areas of the Eastern Mediterranean where the drilling will take place.

The work of finding and exploiting the potential deposits will take 5-10 years and in these areas Turkey will give priority, since the chances of finding oil or gas are very high.

In essence, Turkey, unable to prevent the similar actions of the Republic of Cyprus in the Cyprus EEZ, seeks to achieve an equivalent accomplished by exploring and future exploitation of the wealth that occupied Cyprus has.
