A 50-year-old man from Paralimni was arrested last night by the Police for a shooting case.

According to the facts of the case, at 9:30 on Thursday morning, four members of the Committee Against Bird Slaughtering (CABS), two women from the United Kingdom aged 21 and 22 and two men from Italy aged 39 and 45 were located in a rural area in Paralimni, where they located a number of woodpeckers placed on trees in an unenclosed field.

In their attempt to approach, they received threats from a 50-year-old man from Paralimni, who asked them to leave the area. The 50-year-old then, in an attempt to intimidate them, took a shotgun and fired a number of shots into the air.

The case was reported to the Famagusta Police Department and examinations carried out provided evidence against the 50-year-old from Paralimni. An arrest warrant was issued against him and at 20:50 he was arrested in Paralimni.

He was interrogated in writing and evidence was found to be a shotgun and four full cartridges of "12" caliber, and then he was detained.

It is noted that while the suspect was at the offices of TAE Famagusta for interrogation, 40-50 people gathered outside the Police Department who staged a peaceful protest against the activists, which then ended peacefully.

TAE Famagusta is investigating the case.
