A case of meningitis in a camp in Famagusta

A female non-commissioned officer serving in a unit of the Armed Forces, specifically in the province of Famagusta, showed symptoms of meningitis.

According to information, the non-commissioned officer was admitted to the General Hospital of Paralimni on Wednesday afternoon and the first examinations she underwent showed that she had meningitis and she was immediately treated, while yesterday her health condition improved.

At the same time, preventive treatment has been granted to her close family members. Meanwhile, the Health Force of the Hellenic Armed Forces took all the necessary precautionary measures to prevent the transmission of meningitis to the staff of the unit it serves.

According to the announcement of GEEF:

Regarding a case of bacterial meningitis that occurred on December 13, 2016 in a National Guard Unit, the GEEF announces the following:

1. The patient's condition is steadily improving and from the first moment all the prescribed measures were taken by administering preventive medication to the staff who were in the same workplace.

2. No new case has occurred, neither in her family environment, nor in the Unit she serves.
