With the laying of the foundation stone yesterday, Monday, November 21 by the Minister of Interior Mr. Socrates Hasikos, the construction works of the AD Phase of the Improvement / Upgrading of the Ayia Napa Coastal Front officially begin, which will be completed by the end of May 2018. .
As mentioned in his greeting by the Minister of Interior, the project aims at the aesthetic, quality and socio-economic upgrade of the wider area, by creating facilities for entertainment, leisure, sports and rest. In recent decades, he said, the management and design of outdoor spaces has occupied more and more competent authorities and ecological organizations.
"The existence of outdoor spaces within the urban, positively affects all areas of urban living, contributing to the preservation of the natural environment and improving the quality of life." That is why he added this grand Urban Plan, he looks forward to the rational organization of the coastal front of the area, creating hospitable spaces for social and sports activities.
At the end of his speech, the Minister expressed his sincere congratulations to the Mayor Mr. Giannis Karousos and the Municipal Council for the course so far, as well as for their continuous action, always guided by the substantial upgrade of the Municipality.
In his speech, the Mayor Mr. Giannis Karousos stated that it is a project that the Municipality vigorously claimed and which should have existed for decades in Ayia Napa. His design, he pointed out, started from the previous municipal councils and especially from the late Nakis Tsokko, whom we honor and we will never forget. Despite the efforts of the Blessed Mayor and the previous Municipal Councils, the project remained in the drawers and did not progress.
"Finally, he added, today the implementation begins and in fact in a period where the Municipality can put its own contribution which is 1/3 of the project, due to its excellent finances, since in the last 3.5 years we managed to increase revenues. "by about 3m euros and our surpluses from zero to 2,4m, with the result that our Municipality now stands on solid foundations and can invest in important infrastructure projects".

"Today we are laying the foundation stone for the start of the First Phase of the coastal, but our ultimate goal, he stressed, is the unification of the coastal front from Agia Thekla to Konnos, and in the coming months we will announce in collaboration with ETEK an architectural competition. so that the best proposal is selected based on our vision ".

The implementation of international sports venues, such as beach volleyball courts, beach soccer and scatepark with the necessary support spaces and a large parking lot, is also underway.
The cost of the AD Phase is estimated to reach 2.6m euros of which 2/3 will be covered by the state and the remaining 1/3 by the Municipality of Ayia Napa.
