According to research, the cause is considered to be the rise in exchange rates, which has led to higher living costs in countries such as Australia and Switzerland. The survey compared the prices of 160 products such as food, clothing, public transport, rental and private schools in 130 cities around the world.
Five Australian cities are in the top twenty most expensive cities with Sydney and Melbourne ranking 7th and 8th respectively, while the most expensive city in the US is Los Angeles.
If you are wondering about the cheapest cities they are in Asia (New Delhi and Mumbai in India) while the cheapest of all is Karachi in Pakistan.
