The issue of the autonomy of the Fire Service is considered closed after yesterday's meeting at the Ministry of Justice where all issues were agreed.

Within February, it is expected that the regulations and the bills will be submitted to the Parliament, in order to cut the umbilical cord of the Fire Brigade by the Police.

In yesterday's meeting under Minister Ionas Nikolaou with the leadership of the Fire Service, all the issues that were open were codified and all the questions that arose were resolved. According to Mr. Nikolaou, it was agreed on the structure that the Fire Service will now have and the way it will operate autonomously in relation to the needs that arise both for the establishment of disciplinary bodies and for the conduct of crises in the House.

According to the Minister of Justice, where there is a problem and the various bodies will not be able to be set up, the participation of officers from the Police will be foreseen. Also, the only relationship that will have from the autonomy of the Service with the Police, will be of a technical nature, ie it will be able to use the Department of Studies and the Department of Computers for its own needs.

According to the plans, there will be an upgrade of the position of the director of the Service, who will move from the A14 scale to the A15 scale (like the assistant chiefs) and will be named Pyrarch by the director, according to the Greek model. There will also be another A12-A13 position so that the three assistant directors will be four so that the various bodies that will be provided by the regulations can function. A letter to the Minister of Finance will be sent in the coming days for these two positions.

One of the thorns that seems to find its solution is that of the on call, that is, the officers who will be on duty at home. At the meeting, a proposal was submitted by Mr. Nikolaou that will be promoted in order to solve the issue that is chronic.
