Laconic, as always, but also clear enough, he put things in their place, that is, that this is not the case. Asked about what the newspaper TODAY and Sigma revealed, whether they will be investigated, he said:

"The only case in which I gave instructions not to prosecute the former Governor of the Central Bank, Panikos Dimitriadis, was and is for the falsification of this contract," he said.

At this point, in fact, we tried to completely unravel the scene. That is, if the decision not to prosecute is in any way linked to any agreement reached at the political level.

And Mr. Clerides left no room for misinterpretation or rumors:

"Certainly my decision was based on my own conclusions and the relevant report of the police that investigated the matter," he said.

He will be called if necessary

According to Sigma, the confirmed intention of the investigating authorities is to summon the former Commander to Cyprus when and if deemed appropriate. Specifically, in a relevant question to the Attorney General, he was clear.

"Where this should be deemed appropriate, the former Commander may be called upon to testify either as a witness or as a suspect if there is a good basis."

At the level of Parliament, there is a request for registration and ex-officio examination of the confidential report that we have revealed by the Parliamentary Institutions Committee. The Chairman of the Committee, Nikos Nikolaidis, confirmed the registration of the issue and clearly hinted that there would be communication with Mr. Dimitriadis so that he could be summoned before the body to give his own version.

In the first year, however, the members of the Central Committee who sign the disputed report will be invited to the Commission. The President of the Democratic Alarm, Averof Neophytou, also called for an in-depth investigation of the issues arising from the exposed report, at the same time that he stated that he did not know or believe that the government had given any promise of immunity to Panikos Dimitriadis.
