This committee, he explains, can organize and coordinate the implementation of a smooth transition intervention program, which includes various actions, such as: the exchange of visits of teachers and students, the organization of joint events, co-teaching, involvement and cooperation with the parents, as well as the preparation of a "travel suitcase" that contains books of various courses of the Gymnasium, a box, etc. and to travel to all the Primary Schools.
In a relevant circular on the occasion of the beginning of the new school year, the Ministry characteristically notes that the transition from Primary to High School is a very important stage in the education of students, for a number of reasons. E.g. Primary and Secondary Education are characterized by obvious differences, while the specific transitional stage coincides with the transition from childhood to adolescence, which is considered a difficult period in the development of the individual.
Therefore, he continues, the school must take care of the proper preparation of the child, seeking to enhance the positive image that the student forms of himself. He adds that an institutionalized framework of intervention that bridges the transition of the child from Primary to High School would be very helpful in achieving the goal.
Insurmountable difficulties for many infants
The Ministry characterizes as an extremely critical experience, both for the children themselves and for their families, the transition from Kindergarten to Primary School. He emphasizes that "often insurmountable difficulties are presented to a, not so insignificant, number of children, with the result that this fact is a key point of reflection in our educational system".
Explains that in the new curricula, the equal integration of pre-school education in the unified planning of education is attempted, the creation of favorable conditions for the elimination of stress and anxiety of infants for the primary school program, their prior contact with older children, the bridging of the discontinuity of the programs between the Kindergarten and the Primary School, as well as the convergence of the expectations of the parents and the teachers towards the children. Based on the above, it emphasizes the need to develop a continuous constructive cooperation between Municipal and neighboring Kindergartens, in order to promote and achieve the smooth and natural transition-adaptation of students.
