On Thursday, May 18, 2017, a presentation and a seminar were held at the City Hall of Paralimni regarding the draft Draft Exhibition of the Local Plan of Paralimni, Ayia Napa and Deryneia by officials of the Department of Urban Planning and Housing.
The Report was prepared by the Department of Urban Planning and Housing on the basis of data collected (answering questionnaires by Local Authorities, consultations with various Ministries / Departments and Bodies) and the Urban Planning Council has in principle approved the draft of the Draft Report.
The content of the Draft Report was a topic of discussion at the seminar and the involved Local Authorities were invited to submit their views and suggestions in writing.
The general Strategic Objectives of the Local Plan of Paralimni, Ayia Napa, Deryneia refer to the development, choice of opportunities for acquiring housing, traffic, leisure / entertainment but also stock of land for future development.
In relation to the environment, the landscape, the natural and cultural heritage refer to the protection, upgrade and management of natural resources, the environment, biodiversity, the landscape and the natural and cultural heritage but also the improvement of the quality of life of the inhabitants.
Finally, the Strategic Objectives of the Local Plan in relation to the social and economic development refer to the alternative forms of development, to the location of innovative activities in relation to research and technology and in combination with the productive base, the strengthening of mild types of enterprises in the manufacturing sectors. services and innovation.
The development directions identified were based on:
- Highlighting the role of the Local Plan area at regional / national level and operation of the three settlements as a single system.
- Protection, promotion, promotion and management of the natural environment.
- Ensuring and strengthening agriculture and manufacturing activity, according to the National Strategic Plan for Rural Development.
- Promoting and strengthening the role of the region as a tourist and holiday destination both in relation to the Province of Famagusta and in relation to the pan-Cypriot spatial network in the context of polycentrism (services, trade, tourism, sports / leisure) and simultaneous development, enrichment and specialization of the tourism product.
- Promotion / implementation of priority projects including infrastructure improvement.
The topics for study of the Local Plan of Paralimni, Ayia Napa, Deryneia are the following:
- Road network - Traffic,
- Housing Development and Services,
- Tourism Development,
- Processing - Workshops - Warehouses,
- Agriculture - Livestock,
- Education,
- Public uses, Health and Welfare Infrastructure,
- Architectural heritage, Ancient monuments and Culture,
- Nature, Recreation / Entertainment and Sports.
Finally, it is important to note that in the draft of the Local Plan it is mentioned that after a decision of the Council of Ministers, the Ministry of Interior was authorized to make efforts to designate the two municipalities of Paralimni and Ayia Napa as Urban Centers. Recognizing the fact that they are very important centers of tourism development and they should be given due importance and be helped with development and other projects.
