Ms. Aimilianidou participated in the work of the EU Council, in Luxembourg, on October 5, 2015, where they mainly discussed the strengthening of the EU Social Governance and the proposal for the support of the long-term unemployed.

According to an official announcement, during the policy discussion on "Social governance without discrimination - appropriate directions", the Minister stressed the need to ensure a balanced coordination between economic policies with social policies and employment policies.

In addition, within the Council, the European Commission presented a Proposal for a Council Recommendation on the integration of the long-term unemployed into the labor market.

Welcoming the efforts of the Commission, Ms. Aimilianidou welcomed the Proposal and referred to the recent measures promoted by the Ministry of Labor to combat long-term unemployment.

The Minister suggested that special European funds be allocated for this purpose, in order to support the Member States that face economic constraints and have high rates of long-term unemployment.
