A misreading of the state budget, which was approved by the Parliament last December, was the interpretation given by the state services for the vote against the budget for the roadblocks of Deryneia and Lefka-Aplikio.

On the occasion of relevant correspondence, through which the urgent allocation of an amount of 3,9 million euros was requested, according to information the issue has been resolved relatively easily after it was found that there was a misreading of the budget and that ELAM's proposal did not secure a majority. and EDEK in the plenary session of the Parliament for voting against the fund.

So, in the middle of last week and after the green light was given by the director of Budget and Financial Control of the Ministry of Finance, the director of the Department of Public Works proceeded to award the bid to the contractor who secured the tender for the construction of his department. road corresponding to our side for the Lefka-Apliki roadblock.

The time required by law for any appeals to the Tender Review Authority will be provided and then the contract for the immediate start of construction works will be signed.

It is true, however, that the Turkish Cypriots have almost completed the construction of the section of the road they undertook and the final paving with asphalt remains.

As it is known, the opening of the two roadblocks was among the first confidence-building measures that were decided during the initial Anastasiadis-Akinizi meetings and were referred to the competent technical committee.

Especially for the Lefkas-Apliki roadblock, the contribution of the Republic of Cyprus reaches 2,34 million euros and the planned duration of the project is estimated at 8 months.

However, especially for this project there were two additional problems. The first was ecological and had to do with the environmental study due to the special ecological importance of the area and the second was political and had to do with the dead zone and which side would bear the cost when the HE said they had a problem project financing.
