At the age of 70, Antonis Karras, a former member of the Democratic Alarm, Famagusta, passed away suddenly at noon at 2006.

Antonis Karras, was born in 1947 in Paralimni and after his tenure in the National Guard, he studied at the Law School of the National Kapodistrian University of Athens and Political Science at the Panteion University of Athens.

He was a distinguished lawyer, a profession he practiced until today. During the Turkish invasion, he served as a reserve officer in the 336th Recruitment Battalion under Major Dimitris Alevromagiros, with a significant contribution to the battles for the defense of Nicosia against the advance of the Turkish invading forces. For his action he was nominated for the Medal of Excellence.

He was a founding member of DISY and also served as deputy mayor of Famagusta. He entered Parliament in 1993 as the first runner-up after the victory of Glafkos Clerides in the presidential elections and the appointment of Claire Angelidou as minister.

He developed a rich parliamentary activity and was the chairman of parliamentary committees. He was re-elected as a Member of Parliament in the 1996 and 2001 elections. In 2004-2006 he was the party's parliamentary representative.

He leaves behind a wife, a daughter and a son.

The announcement of the Police

According to the Police, yesterday at noon while the former DISY MP Antonis Karas, 70 years old, was in the yard of his residence in Paralimni, for a reason unknown until now, he lost consciousness.

An ambulance from a private clinic transported him to the Famagusta General Hospital, where the doctor on duty confirmed his death.

Members of the Paralimni Police Station inspected the body without detecting any external injuries and criminal activity was ruled out.

The exact causes of death of Antonis Karas will be ascertained during the legal autopsy that will be performed this morning on his body at the Larnaca General Hospital by the medical examiner Sophocles Sophocles.
