The former President of the Republic, Dimitris Christofias, is summoned to testify in the Court of Appeals, in the context of hearing the appeals filed by both the convicts and the Attorney General for the tragedy in Marie that cost the lives of 13 people.

The issue arose after specific reports by Dimitris Christofias in a television interview he gave on December 4 to "Sigma" and to journalist Chrysanthos Tsouroulis.

In relation to these reports, the lawyers of the convicted former Commander of EMAK, Andrea Loizidis will submit a summons request of the former President of the Republic.

Justifying his request, the lawyer Thanasis Korfiotis stated that in his interview Mr. Christofias was placed on a point that is crucial for the defense of his client and specifically for the role of the military and their view on the danger of containers.

The Court of Appeals set the case for January 9, 2014, when the request will be registered by Mr. Korfiotis, who will speak on it, while a speech is expected to be made on the same day by the Attorney General.

With regard to the hearing of the appeals, the Plenary Session of the Supreme Court decided that it be held on 2, 3 and 4 April 2014.
