The Municipality of Sotira presents on Saturday, March 18, 2017, 8:30 p.m. at the Municipal Theater Sotiras the play "Fires" by Wazdi Mouwad from the New Stage of THOK.
A difficult will is an occasion for two young people, Jean and Simon, to travel to the Middle East and look for their roots, after the death of their mother. In the course and evolution of the journey, people, situations, events will help clarify their personal case. Through this wandering they will discover secret aspects of their mother's life and the consequences brought to her by the civil war. Without realizing the development of this story, they will be confronted with truths that stigmatized both their mother's life and their own. In the end, they will carry out their mission, discovering their true identity, which will hurt them and save them at the same time.
The director Paris Erotokritou notes: "The work of Wazdi Mouwad could be characterized as a modern variation of the tragedy of Oedipus not in Thebes but this time in the Middle East. Fires is a project to find the truth and repay a debt. A debt tragic and painful against the background of the great civil war in our neighboring Lebanon. At the same time, Fires is a metaphysical work where space and time are often shifted just like in a dream - or rather in a nightmare. The search for this truth will lead to the redefinition of the identity of the protagonists, raising questions about whether the past should be forgotten or explored at any cost. At the heart of the work is the concept of travel - both geographically and psychologically - and the effects of a crime and the war from which it was born that determine the fate and lives of future generations. "
The play Fires by Wazdi Muawad is presented for the first time in Cyprus.
