As he stated, "today representatives of the Department of Public Works and the Department of Water, as well as the Deputy District of Famagusta, paid an on-site visit to Famagusta Street, which last Saturday suffered a landslide. The Auditor General of the Republic also contacted and requested that the specific part of the road remain closed, until their own technicians visit it ".

Referring to the history of the problem, Mr. Michaela said that "the sewer system of Avgoros started in 2010 and the previous Community Council reported since then, a series of defects. When I took office in January 2012, I did not deal with anything other than the sewer malfunctions and despite our protests, the project managers simply told us that Avgorou was not included in the contract for the sewerage system that was then being built by the Water Department in collaboration with a contractor ".

He added that the residents and the Community Council "protested in the House of Representatives, the Auditor General of the Republic, while a meeting was held with the then Minister of Interior Eleni Mavrou. "The Minister of Agriculture, Rural Development and Environment, Nikos Kougialis, has visited the Community four times since taking office, and although he gave instructions for repair, what was happening was just a patch."

Mr. Michaelas noted that during last year's visit of the President of the Republic Nikos Anastasiadis and the announcement of the works for the free area of Famagusta, "we had mentioned the defects that occurred in the sewerage system and the problems faced by our citizens". President Anastasiadis, he continued, instructed the Minister of Agriculture to resolve the problem for which a meeting was held with the participation of Mr. Nikos Kougialis, the Community Council of Avgoros, the Department of Public Works, the District Administration and the Department of Water.

He added that "at that time it was agreed that the Department of Public Works would record and assess the damage, while the schedule they had given us was that the repairs would take about two months. However, until today we have not received the assessment of the damages, while in the Committee for the receipt of the project the deputy District of Famagusta was not included as requested by the Chairman of the Parliamentary Committee on Interior ".

Answering a relevant question, Mr. Michaela said that "every time it rains we live in fear that the roads will collapse due to the fact that the contractors of the project did not do a good job. The landslide that took place last Saturday was on Famagusta Street, a straight road that connects Frenaros with Liopetri and the defects that were made on the road with the construction of the sewer, brought us to where we are today, that is, to open holes ".

He also stated that "holes were also created in the Avgorou - Achnas road and in Ikarion Street, which is currently being reconstructed from the beginning, at a depth of six meters, 1200 meters long, which will cost 4 million euros" is "the urban - sewerage project announced by President Anastasiadis for Avgorou during his visit last year to free Famagusta ".

As for the cars that were damaged by the landslide last Saturday, the Commonwealth said that "a total of 4 cars passed through this point in the morning while two other vehicles had passed at two in the morning and fell in after their drivers did not notice the hole. "The owners of these vehicles have in their hands invoices with damage assessments, which will be sent to the Water Department to be compensated", he concluded.
